Hachi-hachi rule


The Hachi-hachi rules are written for linking from the Board Game Arena game page.

Basic Rules

Hachi-hachi is a game of Hanafuda played for a year in 12 months (12 deals).
A month (1 deal) consists of a bidding phase and a play phase.

Bidding phase

Scoring of players who cannot participate in the play

The player who cannot participate in the play because three players have declared "Join The Play" receives the following points from the three players depending on the contents of his/her hand.

Playing phase

When a player make a card set yaku (Deki-Yaku) and is likely to make another card set yaku (Deki-Yaku), he or she may continue to play.
In the BGA, if there is no possibility that another possible card set yaku (Deki-Yaku) can be made, the game will be moved to the scoring calculation without confirming whether or not to continue play.

Final Settlement

At the end of 12 months play, the player with the highest score receives a score of (player number multiply by 5) kans as the top prize.
If there is more than one player with the same highest score at the end of play, those players will split the top prize.


Variant Rules


game length

Half Year game : Play 6 deals(months). Each player starts play with -3 kans.
Full Year game : Play 12 deals(months). Each player starts play with -5 kans.

3 players game

When there are three players, the bidding phase is omitted and only the play phase is conducted.
Hand yaku, card set yaku and special scoring yaku are handled as usual.

List of Hand yakus (Te-Yaku)

There are two types of hand yakus: by Chaff cards and by distribution of suits.
If there are both by Chaff cards and by distribution of suits, the player will get points for both.

List of Card set yaku (Deki-Yaku)

When a player acquires the card set yaku (Deki-Yaku) during play, the play phase ends immediately and the score is calculated.
When a player make a card set yaku (Deki-Yaku) and is likely to make another card set yaku (Deki-Yaku), he or she may continue to play.

List of special scoring yaku (Tokushu-Yaku)

The special scoring yaku will be confirmed at the end of the play phase.
The hand yakus (Te-Yaku) paid at the beginning of this deal and the payment associated with the hand yakus (Te-Yaku) will be refunded.
